CREATIVE SESSIONS #2

With each creative session I want to show a different part of my process. This time we will be focusing on Colour Grading!

The footage was all shot on my Sony A7S Mk iii, in S-Log 3. Above is the before and after

I shot this footage a long time ago but never did anything with it, so during a creative burst in between long corporate client edits, I dug around in my archives and decided to use it to create a little Colour Grading timelapse.

I've had conversations with a few fellow cinematographers and a few of them say they hate the Colour Grading process! That's crazy talk to me - personally I get so excited once I hit this stage in the process of post production, it's extremely therapeutic, I feel like Bob Ross and his empty canvas.

If anyone reading this ever has questions about Colour Grading, feel free to get in touch via the contact form on my website! I'm by no means a master, but I have been practicing for about 4 years now and have definitely learned a trick or two!

The main thing is - make sure your footage is well shot and well balanced! Colour grading is the finesse on a well composed shot, not a magic fixture for garbage footage!
